New Mexico Charging Stations

In New Mexico, electric vehicles have become more common. The increased use of all-electric cars has made charging station infrastructure a need. Cities in New Mexico have implemented charging stations at grocery stores, businesses, and gas stations to accommodate long-distance travel and daily recharging needs for electric vehicle owners. New Mexico has a network of charging stations in several cities across the state. According to charge hub, cities with charging stations include Alamogordo, Albuquerque, Corrales, Deming, Farmington, Gallup, Kewa Pueblo, Las Cruces, Las Vegas, Los Alamos, Ranchos de Taos, Rio Rancho, Santa Fe, Santa Rosa, Socorro, Taos Ski Valley, Truth or Consequences, Tucumcari and White Rock.

Charge Hub helps electric vehicle (EV) owners discover public charging stations. Allowing them to easily plan long trips and communicate with other Charge Hub app users.

Charging Stations in Albuquerque

Albuquerque has 69 charging ports 52 of which use level two charging while the other 17 use level three. These stations use either Charge Point, Tesla, or Electrify America.

Charging Stations in Santa Fe

In Santa Fe, there’s a total of 54 charging stations. Of these stations 40 use level two charging, while the other 14 use level three. These stations use either Tesla, Charge Point, or no network.

How Long it Takes to Charge Electric Vehicles?

Those who drive gas vehicles don’t have to pay too much attention to how far their car can go on a tank of gas because we have gas stations at almost every exit and it only takes a couple of minutes to fill up. However, to effectively travel, EV owners have to take into account how long their vehicle will last before it needs another charge. And because it takes more than a couple of minutes to charge an EV, it takes even more forethought.

EV owners need to find the nearest station and schedule the several hours it takes to charge it. Alternatively, they might charge it while doing something else like sleeping, shopping, or working. A regular 120-volt outlet will add 3-5 miles per hour of charge. A 240-volt level two charger can add 12-80 miles per hour. Level three chargers (400-900 volts) add between 3 to 20 miles per minute.

Hybrid Car Range

The UC Davis Plug-in Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Research Center state that a hybrid vehicle will typically last between 10-50 miles before it starts to use gas. At which point it can then continue running for another 300 miles.

Range of All-electric Vehicles

Early EVs could go 100 miles before they needed another charge. Today the average EV has a range of 250 miles. The most range an all-electric car has gotten out of one charge is 350 miles.

The Advantage of Charging Your EV with Residential Solar

Because charging EVs can become time-consuming, it makes sense to make the most of your time. Installing a level two charger in your home can help.

Adding a charging station allows the car to charge when you’re home. If you plug in the car when you come home, it would fully charge again by the next day. Home charging stations minimize the need for public charging stations.

However, the issue of the electricity source and price can become a concern. Residential solar helps solve these issues for EV owners.

Make Better Energy Consumption Choices With Residential Solar

Transportation composes 29 percent of greenhouse gas emissions in the United States. Switching from gas to electric-powered cars helps mitigate car emissions. However, depending on the source of electricity generation, EVs don’t eliminate the problem.

Most utilities still use fossil fuels to generate the majority of the community’s electricity needs. Homeowners with residential solar, however, produce their electricity from the sun. The combination of residential solar and EVs is a no-brainer for those concerned about their carbon footprint.

How Solar Decreases the Overall Cost

While electricity is economical compared to gasoline, solar costs even less. New Mexico Homeowners who invest in residential solar have access to state, federal, and company incentives. Making solar cheaper than traditional electricity generation. Depending on the chosen payment delivery model of buying or leasing solar panels, solar can save even more.
